SHANE NICHOLS
Assistant Coach

At Murray State

  • Nichols begins his third season with the Murray State Racers in the 2017-18 season.

Before MSU

  • Was assistant coach at Hofstra under coach Joe Mihalich for two seasons including a 20 win 2014-15 campaign. 
  • He also assisted Mihalich in the 2012-13 season at Niagara.
  • Prior to his move to Niagara, Nichols served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Wofford, where the Terriers advanced to the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
  • Nichols was a quick study under great coaches Mike Young at Wofford and Joe Mihalich at Hofstra and Niagara.
  • As a player at Wofford, he scored 1,482 points in his career and was a multiple All-Southern Conference selection.

Personal

  • Earned a degree in sociology from Wofford in 2008 where he was a three-year starter.
  • Nichols and his wife Jamonika are newlyweds having exchanged vows in the summer of 2017.
 

TIM KAINE
Assistant Coach

 At Murray State

  • Tim Kaine (pronounced cane) is in his third season with the Racers as an assistant coach in the 2017-18 season.
  • Brings a promising skill set to Murray State as a well known and respected coach.
  • Coach Mark Byington at Georgia Southern and Coach Mike Jarvis at FAU are among his mentors.

Before MSU

  • Was assistant coach in the 2014-15 season at Georgia Southern where the Eagles had a 22-9 record.
  • Coached for six seasons at Florida Atlantic.
  • Also had coaching stops at Winthrop, Austin Peay, Newberry College and Guilford College.
  • Before playing at Winthrop, his playing career started at UT Martin where he played for Racer coaching legend Cal Luther.

Personal

  • Kaine graduated from Winthrop in 2002 with a degree in sports management and then earned a master’s degree in sport management from Austin Peay in 2003.
  • A native of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Kaine is married to Jenny Kaine (Ashworth) and the couple has two children, Tory (4) and Avery (1).

Personal

CASEY LONG
Assistant Coach

At Murray State

  • Long joined the Racers over the summer and starts his first year at MSU in the  2017-18 season.

Before MSU

  • Served on staff of Coach Will Wade for two seasons at VCU from 2015-17.
  • At VCU, he was part of a successful two seasons.
  • In the 2015-16 season, the Rams shared the Atlantic 10 Conference title.
  • In the 2016-17 season, VCU finished second.
  • In two seasons, VCU was 51-20 overall and 18-8 in the A-10 and made back-to-back NCAA appearances.
  • Was an assistant at his alma mater, Chattanooga from 2012-15.
  • As a student-athlete at Chattanooga, Long had an amazing career.
  • He is the only player in program history to finish his career with more than 1000 points, 450 rebounds, and 350 assists.

Personal

  • His hometown is Leesville, Louisiana.
  • Long graduated with a degree in political science from Chattanooga in 2007.
  • He is married to the former Co’chea Rivera. The couple has a daughter, Catalina (2).
